‘Peter, Feed my Sheep.’ What did Jesus really mean?

Reading through the compendium of God’s thoughts, John 10:16 tells us that the word ‘sheep,’ as used, refers to those who believe in Jesus Christ.

As a result of their nature, sheep need someone of higher standing to direct them, and feed them with the required victuals for development. Jeremiah 23:4 tells us that the responsibility of feeding the sheep rests with Pastors, Deacons, Prophets, Reverends, Bishops etc. And John 10:11 refers to these people as ‘Shepherds.’

In these days where such titles have become things of political tussles in the vineyard of God, how many truly understand the word of Jesus Christ?

I Kings 22:17 tells us that when Jesus asked Peter to feed His sheep, He meant that Peter should bring unity among the sheep- Is there unity in Christendom today?

Psalms 23:1 also tells us that Peter, according to the instruction of Jesus, is supposed to provide for the needs of the sheep- how many Shepherds are wealthy off their impoverished members today?

Psalms 80:1 then tells us that Jesus’ statement also meant that Peter should lead the sheep aright- look closely and tell if we truly have that.

Ecclesiastes 12:11 gives us a perfect understanding that Jesus also meant that Peter should feed the sheep with godly wisdom- how many sheep are wiser than Shepherds today from the godly perspective?

Isaiah 44:28 tells us that the instruction of Jesus to Peter also meant that Peter should always do things that are pleasurable to God- how pleasurable are ‘divorce’, ‘politics’ and ‘tribalism’ to God?

Ezekiel 34:12 puts it this way- Peter is supposed to look for any sheep among the flock that is lost, and bring them back to the fold; how many sheep have wandered away from our fold today without being searched for?

Matthew 25:32 tells us that Peter is supposed to diligently separate goats from the flock of sheep under his care- how many goats are in the arm of affairs in God’s church today?

Luke 2:8 makes us understand that feeding the sheep also means watching over them even at nights- how many Shepherds pray for their sheep at nights today?

And John 10:12 tells us that Peter, who has the responsibility of feeding the sheep, must not be cunning- he must always come in through the front door.

Looking around us today, we’ll see that most Shepherds have conformed themselves to Zechariah 11:15- they have become foolish. Most of them even feed off the sheep- they have made the sheep their source of greedy amassing of wealth. Was that what Christ meant?

Are you a Shepherd? Do you really understand Jesus’ word when He asked Peter to feed His sheep?

Zechariah 13:7 says that a time will come when God’s anger will be kindled upon those Shepherds who have made themselves foolish- God will smite them. And no one can rescue anyone smitten by God!

‘Peter, feed my sheep.’ What did Jesus really mean? I report, you decide!
