Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor AbduGaniyu Ambali, on Monday announced that all students of the institutions will be screened for the Ebola Virus Disease before they are allowed to resume for the new academic session.
The students proceeded on end-of-session break before Patrick Sawyer brought the disease into the country in July.
Speaking at the university’s health centre while unveiling preventive kits worth N1.2m, Ambali said UNILIORIN was fully prepared to combat the disease.
"The procurement of the
anti-Ebola kits is part of the
university’s preparedness to
tackle the epidemic
headlong," NAN quoted him
as saying, adding that face
masks, boots, hand gloves,
automatic soap dispenser,
infrared thermometer and
disposable bed spreads were
among the items that the
institution procured to fight
the disease.
He commended members of the institution’s Ebola response committee for their foresight and prompt response, charging the university’s health workers to be alert and to follow stipulated procedures in the case of an outbreak.
The university’s director of health services, Dr Mary Ajiboye, who presented the equipment to the Vice Chancellor, said the kits were
for the protection of staff and students.
"The committee would place
the hand sanitisers in
strategic locations on the
campus such as the Senate
Building, faculties, walkways
and Unilorin FM station," she
said.
